What is Speed Networking?

Feb 23rd, 2010 | By admin | Category: New Events

speednetworking Similar to speed dating, with speed networking, participants have the opportunity to network with many other business professionals in a very short period of time. At the beginning of the event, there is open networking where the attendees are expected to walk up to each other to get the conversation started. You could call this a warm-up activity. After an hour of open networking, about 50 to 100 people are then seated in about 4, double rows of chairs.

Every person sits across from each other. The host then gives instructions for you to have a three minute conversation at the sound of a bell with the person sitting across from you- giving each person a minute and thirty seconds to speak and exchange business cards. After three minutes, the bell is sounded and everyone in designated rows shifts to the right, while the facing rows remain in place. At the end of the event, the host gives each participant a list of all the attendees and their contact information.

The 20 best Speed Dating questions you can ask a prospective date

Nov 20th, 2009 | By admin | Category: Tips on speed dating

iStock_000004515263XSmallSpeed dating is the hot new alternative on the dating scene. In the present world of speed and frenzy, speed dating is the instant dating solution for today’s adults. Unlike normal dating, you have got five to 10 minutes to meet and create chemistry.

Because of this limited time, the way you dress and the questions you ask are really important. One thing you really don’t have is the luxury of time. If you are tongue-tied, you are out of the picture. No one wants to date someone who does not talk, is boring or nervous.

So dating experts advise that short of having a paper full of questions, you must be ready with a list of interesting, impressive and enjoyable questions that will keep the conversation thriving in those five-ten minutes. Here are some suggestions:

1) What do you do for work? – It is an introductory question. It may reveal the professional status of a person but little about his personality. So move on to another question.

2) Where are you from? – This reveals background. It throws better light on the person.

3) What do you think is the most important value in a relationship?

4) Do you want to marry or have you ever been married? This is important, as it will reveal if both are moving in the same direction – towards or away from marriage.

5) What do you look for in a husband/wife? Try to elicit an honest answer.

6) Do you want/do you have any children? An important question if you are looking for a long-term relationship and your partner is not.

7) What do you do for fun? – This will throw light on whether your leisure activities match. Are you a bookworm and she an outdoorsy person?

8) Is religion important to you? 24×7 living together means understanding on certain basic issues like religious beliefs.

9) Which is your favorite music and your favorite singer/band? Do you share musical tastes?

10) Do you like animals/keep pets? Are you going to clash on this issue – one an animal hater, the other a pet lover?

10) How do you spend your spare time? This is important, as it will really help if both love to do the same things in spare time.

11) Where do you see yourself in five years time? Watch out if he has no definite goals for the future and is in a rut. A positive mark for her if she has her life and career planned out positively.

12) If you were an animal in the wild, what would you be? Silly, amusing question to get the laughs.

13) If you have friends coming over, what would you cook?

14) Describe your perfect holiday. One thinks frozen Alaska, the other sunny Australia.

15) If you could live anywhere in the world, where would it be?

16) Which is the one job in the world that you would love to do? Throws light on likes and dislikes.

17) Who is your favorite actor/actress/celebrity and why?

18) What is your favorite sporting activity?

19) Which is your favorite genre of movies – comedy/thriller/action?

20) Are you a morning person or a night person?

What is Speed Dating?

¿Que es speed dating?Let’s face it, by now you know it takes meeting a number of people before you find someone you have a connection with. But the problem is, how do you meet them in the first place? Sure there are ways–bars, blind dates, dating services online, etc. But they all have their disadvantages and they take time…lots of it. What fun is it to wait around for someone to talk to you in a bar or when you’re out and about? What fun is it to risk rejection over and over again striking up conversations with people you don’t even know are single? If the conversation goes well, what about the awkwardness afterwards with asking for phone numbers? With Speed Dating, you meet up to 12 (and sometimes more) single professionals in less than 2 hours. Think of it as a series of “facilitated introductions” just like when you go to a party with a good host. Afterwards, if there’s interest (you discreetly circle on your interest sheet who you would like to hear from again), you’ll get an email with links to contact these event participants. There’s no pressure, no rejection, no embarrassment and no games!

Who coordinates the Speed Dating Events? Our Event Coordinator and founder is Jason Wilson.  He was born and raised in Atlanta, Georgia and has lived and worked in Bogotá, Colombia for 7 years.  He is married to a Colombian woman and founded Speed Dating in Colombia to help business professionals in their quest of finding a mate.  His experience as an English Teacher and resident of Bogotá motivated him to provide people with a fresh, new dating experience through which business professionals can meet new people from other countries and backgrounds, practice their English, and have fun.

What Makes Speed Dating in Colombia Different From Other Dating Services?
Sorry to be cliché but not all speed dating companies are created equal. Speed Dating in Colombia is the only speed dating company for single professionals who speak English. Here are some other things that make Speed Dating in Colombia different from other speed dating companies:

  • Focus on ProfessionalsSpeed Dating in Colombia is the only speed dating company focusing on single professionals who speak English.
  • Available Speed Dating in Colombia is available by telephone 6 days a week- Monday through Saturday. Sometimes you just need to talk to someone. Our Event Coordinator has the contact phone number posted on the Web site and in emails we send you. What other speed dating company offers this level of service?
  • Reliable – Don’t gamble with your time on companies that cancel or postpone events. We make every effort to hold our events as scheduled.
  • Quality – We work hard to have the ideal number of people at each event and to balance genders. Ensuring a good turnout and that there are equal numbers of men and women is critical to success. Beware of companies that take people at the door, as most times they are literally praying the right number of people show up or enough show up to actually hold the event.

Hurts so Good

Nov 19th, 2009 | By admin | Category: Blogs

couples dating 3There is nothing like the emotions you go through when you are falling for someone. I liken it to what I think falling out of an airplane would feel, but I haven’t skydived yet so I am speculating. You are taking a calculated risk. You have your parachute and your tandem partner that you trust completely.

You take the leap and you have an initial feeling of utter bliss and joy. The moment you fall out feels surreal and unbelievable. Then perhaps you look at exactly how high you are and maybe start to panic a bit. You hope that your rip cord works and that you and your partner won’t fall too badly because you know it will hurt if your parachute doesn’t open. (more…)

Think Outside the Box

dating ideasI have pretty much been on all the traditional dates you can imagine. You know, the safe and predictable ones. I know that I am not the only one who is tired of going to dinner and a movie for a first date, am I?  I think it’s time we all shook things up a little.

Why not begin 2010 with thinking outside the “dating” box and move out of our ridiculously safe (read: dull) comfort zones.  Let’s all make a list of the most outrageous, non-traditional, completely out of your character date activities you can think of and then go do it! (more…)

The history of Speed Dating

Nov 12th, 2009 | By admin | Category: History

The concept of “round robin dating” was founded by Rabbi Yaacov Deyo and his students in Los Angeles, CA as a way of helping Jewish singles meet and marry. Rabbi Deyo coined the word SpeedDating® as the name for these events. The first event took place at Pete’s Café in Beverly Hills in late 1998.

During 1999, the concept was modified – until its current form of 7, 7-minute round robin dates in one night. Today, hundreds of Jews have met and married through this venue – and it has spawned the round robin dating industry for people of all cultural backgrounds.

If there is something that has all the traits of a God given technique of making love, speed dating is the best system that beats all of them. It is so effective as to make men and women trust it more than any other dating technique that the world has ever seen. Speed dating has a way of bringing to the taste of the involved a fresh kind of beginning to the art of love and the beginning of intimacy to a point of real enjoying every kind of happening that takes place.

Fun is in the center of speed dating, and it has been stated that if you cannot enjoy speed dating then you should think about checking out another technique. It is all about that flavor that makes the world such as a romantic place, a place where you cannot fail to have achieved the essence of love and the hue of a true relationship. Speed dating has one of the best turnouts more than any other method of seeking solace and finding loving friendships in the modern world, mostly the twenty first century part, because of the character of its nature.

It also gives you the idea that finding a person with whom you can change the world is just at your finger tips, if you are ready to love and enjoy romance. The romance that you feel and the endearment you see in the air are so intense in the atmosphere that you feel like you want to savor the moment for ever. It’s what speed dating does to you. The fact is that when you have not found a person to love and face the world with, there is a huge problem in the offing.

ist2_8605061-date-nightYou cannot ignore the fact that speed dating gives you a chance to fall in love, a chance to transform your romantic world with true friendship and acute dating. Speed dating gives you a chance to begin trying the hand of networking and how it can change your life. Networking is the in thing in our modern world, as seen in the success of Facebook and other social networking sites. It is something that has been there since time immemorial, since man started answering his questions through word of mouth and meeting face to face.

The people you meet in a speed dating event mean that you will choose a couple of them who will then form the basis of networking. Once you have both been able to choose each other, you will be able to come up with a scheme to involve yourself in the world of dating, and in case you have had something that makes you like each other such as chemistry, you will then be able to choose whether to continue with the dating or not. You will then be able to meet the friends of your date from whence the word networking will have a meaning. Such is the flavor of speed dating.

Speed Dating: A New Form of Matchmaking

Nov 11th, 2009 | By admin | Category: Speed Dating

If you’re dating in this day and age, you know that time constraints can have a big impact on your social life. Many television shows and cities have a solution called “speed dating.” What is speed dating? The rules of speed dating are quite simple. A group of singles gathers at a cafe or similar venue. Armed with a nametag, a scorecard and their sparkling personality, couples are paired up to begin their first date.

Following seven to twelve minutes of conversation, a bell is rung, and the men move on to meet their next date. Think of it as a flirt’s version of musical chairs.

Following each date, participants mark on a card whether they would have an interest in meeting their date again. If a mutual interest is noted, speed-dating organizers provide each party with the other’s phone number.

For many singles tired of the bar scene and weary of blind dates, speed dating offers a fun and safe alternative.
